Had Hatshepsut's workmen been able to complete and raise this obelisk, still in situ at the granite quarry near Aswan, it would, without doubt, have been the largest ever constructed. Left unfinished due to an irreparable crack, it would have been almost 100 feet in height with a weight of more than 450 tons. As it is, it allows subsequent generations better to understand obelisk carving and the immense amount of labor and skill required.
