Temple of Khnum: Esna
Only a relatively small hypostyle hall remains of the Esna temple, though originally it probably was built in much the same style as Dendera. Dedicated to the god Khnum, the temple was built in about 200 BCE on the ruins of a temple of the 18th Dynasty. Khnum was a very ancient creator god, believed to have created humanity on his potter's wheel from Nile mud. Depicted as a man with a ram's head and horns that project horizontally from his head, he was seen colorfully at the tomb of Amenherkhepeshef) In addition to being celebrated at Esna, there was a major cult center for Khnum on the island of Elphantine, near Philae, where he was worshipped as god of the First Cataract of the Nile.
